Professional Collaboration: Nursing and Pharmacy Study Programs Successfully Hold PBL-IPE

Fikes News Online,- The Nursing and Pharmacy Study Programs at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, successfully held a Problem-Based Learning – Interprofessional Education (PBL-IPE) activity, which was enthusiastically attended. This activity aimed to strengthen understanding and collaborative skills between professions in the context of integrated healthcare services oriented toward patient safety.

More than 200 students from both study programs participated in the activity, held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the M.K. Tadjuddin Auditorium. This activity provided an interactive learning platform for nursing and pharmacy students to collaboratively address actual clinical scenarios. Students were divided into 20 cross-professional groups and facilitated by 10 lecturers from both study programs.

The plenary discussion, part of the PBL series, featured two expert speakers: Dr. Ita Yuanita, M.Kep (Nursing) and Dr. apt. This PBL-IPE activity was integrated into the Continuous Chronic Nursing Management Module for Nursing students and the Interprofessional Education 1 (IPE 1) course for sixth-semester Pharmacy students. Students were faced with triggering cases that required multidisciplinary analysis and collaborative intervention development. The group discussion process (DK 1 and DK 2) encouraged students to understand the roles, boundaries, and importance of effective interprofessional communication in comprehensively resolving patient problems.

Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs, Dr. apt. Nurmeilis, appreciated this activity as part of strengthening the collaboration-based curriculum. "This activity not only integrates theory and practice but also provides students with hands-on experience in working across professions systematically. This is part of the academic strategy to produce graduates who are adaptable and ready to face the world of work," she said.

Vice Dean III for Student Affairs, Dr. Ns. Uswatun Khasanah, S.Kep., MNS, also expressed her appreciation for the implementation of this activity. According to him, PBL-IPE is a concrete form of developing students' soft skills, such as leadership, empathy, communication, and teamwork, which are crucial in modern healthcare practice. "Students learn more than just knowledge; they learn to become humanistic and collaborative healthcare professionals," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. apt. Zilhadia, M.Si., stated that this activity is part of FIKes' commitment to supporting the national interprofessional education program and the internationalization of healthcare education. "Through PBL-IPE, we instill a collaborative culture from an early age. This is crucial for producing healthcare professionals—both nurses and pharmacists—who are competent, professional, and able to work in cross-professional teams in the era of complex healthcare services," he emphasized.

With this successful implementation, PBL-IPE is expected to continue to be a flagship program that strengthens integration between study programs, producing graduates who are not only academically intelligent but also excel in collaboration, empathy, and prioritize patient safety. (ND/UK)
