FKIK Building, Fikes News Online,- The Faculty of Health Sciences recently hosted a cancer awareness program organized by the Indonesian Cancer Institute (LKI). The event took place in the Main Meeting Room and was attended by all faculty staff. The event was opened by the Head of the Faculty of Health Sciences Administration on Thursday (September 18, 2025).

One important point emphasized was the difference between tumors and cancer. Many people still assume that tumors and cancer are the same thing, but not all tumors are cancerous.

A tumor is the medical term for an abnormal lump that can grow in various parts of the body. Tumors can be divided into two main types: benign and malignant. Meanwhile, cancer is the term used to describe a malignant tumor that can spread to other parts of the body and be life-threatening.

The outreach material also discussed several common types of cancer, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, and cervical cancer. Participants received information about the symptoms, risk factors, prevention methods, as well as screening and treatment methods for each type of cancer.

This outreach is expected to increase public awareness and knowledge, particularly among employees of the Faculty of Health Sciences, about cancer and how to prevent it. With a better understanding, it is hoped that the public will be able to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of developing cancer and detect the disease at an early stage.
