HMPS Pharmacy Holds Community Service Expo to Increase Public Knowledge, Awareness, and Understanding

FIKES Online News - The Community Service Expo was organized by the Pharmacy Student Association (HMPS) of the State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in collaboration with the Indonesian Pharmacy and Silver Study Programs at the FIKES building in the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta campus. Thirty-five participants from the community around the UIN Jakarta campus participated in the event, aiming to implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of ​​community service. The main objective of this event was to increase public knowledge, awareness, and understanding of the importance of personal behavior in preventing diabetes, as well as to encourage the adoption of a healthy lifestyle in daily life to reduce the risk of diabetes mellitus. The series of events began at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time with opening remarks by Mutia Shafiqa Zahra, the Chairperson of the Pharmacy Expo 2025, and Alisha Putri Prambudi, the Chairperson of the HMPS Pharmacy. Ismiarni Komala., M.SC., Ph.D as the head of the pharmacy study program of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. apt. Zilhadia M.Si as the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Azizah Fajar Islam, S.Psi., M.Si as the representative from Perak Indonesia who each said about the importance of this diabetes topic in everyday life in society.

Next, participants were given informational materials covering the definition of diabetes mellitus, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and the importance of prevention through diet, physical activity, stress management, and regular health check-ups. The material was delivered by Apt. Yardi, MSi, PhD, a Pharmacy lecturer at UIN Jakarta, using lectures, interactive discussions, and a question-and-answer method to increase participant participation and understanding. Additionally, blood sugar checks were also conducted during the activity.

Throughout the activity, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm, actively asking questions and discussing daily habits that can influence diabetes risk. This activity is expected to raise public awareness and encourage greater concern for their own health and the health of their surroundings by adopting healthy lifestyles as a preventative measure against diabetes.

Overall, the Community Service activity, themed "Socialization of Personal Behavior Related to Diabetes Prevention in the Community," proceeded smoothly and orderly. This activity provided tangible benefits for participants and is expected to be the first step in improving the quality of public health sustainably. (ZR)
