Interprofessional Education (IPE): UIN Jakarta Faculty of Health Sciences Students Train in Disaster Management and BHD Simulations

FIKES Online News – The Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held an Interprofessional Education (IPE) activity in the form of a Disaster Management and Basic Life Support (BLS) Simulation on Saturday, November 15, 2025. The activity took place from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM WIB at FIKES UIN Jakarta, involving students from the Pharmacy, Nursing, and Public Health Study Programs.

A total of 22 groups were formed, each receiving a case study consisting of an earthquake scenario accompanied by a map of the disaster location. Students then engaged in group discussions to analyze the situation, prioritize management, and formulate disaster response strategies. Each group presented their discussion results through presentation slides, which were assessed directly by facilitators.

Through an Interprofessional Education (IPE) approach, students were trained to understand the roles of each profession, communicate effectively, and make decisions together in critical situations.

Following the discussion session, all participants participated in a Basic Life Support (BLS) simulation, which aimed to equip students with practical lifesaving skills in emergency situations.

The facilitators provided evaluation and feedback on the students' presentations and engagement in the simulation. Overall, the IPE activity was well-organized, interactive, and enhanced students' understanding of the importance of interprofessional teamwork in disaster management.

The Chairperson of the event, Ns. Eni Nuraini Agustini, SKp., MSc., PhD, stated that Indonesia is a country with a high risk of disasters, ranging from earthquakes and tsunamis to floods and volcanic eruptions. This situation demands healthcare workers who are not only academically competent but also able to collaborate across professions in emergency response. Through the Interprofessional Education (IPE) approach, students are trained to understand the roles of each profession, communicate effectively, and make joint decisions in critical situations.

The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Apt. Nurmeilis, M.Si., emphasized that this activity is a crucial step in preparing healthcare workers who are ready to face disasters. "We hope this simulation will provide valuable knowledge for students to work directly in the field with professionalism and empathy. Through this activity, students will understand the importance of collaborative roles in disaster management. The Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) UIN Jakarta is committed to producing healthcare workers who are competent, humane, and ready to face future humanitarian challenges," she said. (JH)
