FIKES News Online,— The Journal of Religion and Public Health (JRPH) of the Faculty of Health Sciences successfully held a workshop titled "Mastering the Art of Peer Review" on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in the Main Meeting Room of FIKES, UIN Jakarta. FIKES lecturers participated in this workshop as an effort to improve academic capacity, particularly in the peer review process of scientific articles.
The event began with orderly participant registration. Promptly at 9:30 a.m. WIB, the event was officially opened by the MC, followed by remarks from the Head of the Public Health Study Program, Raihana Nadra Alkaff, PhD. In her remarks, Raihana emphasized the importance of faculty capacity building activities, particularly in supporting FIKES's vision of producing high-quality, impactful scientific work.
Following remarks were delivered by the Editor-in-Chief of the Jurnal Riset Kesehatan (JRPH), Meliana Sari, MKM. In her remarks, she emphasized that peer review is not merely an administrative procedure in journal publication, but rather a crucial element in maintaining scientific quality. "With good peer review skills, we not only contribute to the quality of JRPH journals but also increase the competitiveness of FIKES academics," said Meliana.
Prof. Hoirun Nisa, PhD, as a resource speaker, explained the best strategies for conducting peer review. For nearly two hours, participants not only listened to the presentation but also engaged in a question-and-answer session led by a moderator. In his presentation, Prof. Hoirun Nisa emphasized that "Peer review is not just about providing criticism, but also about improving the quality of scientific work for broader benefits."
This workshop provided not only theoretical insights but also valuable practical experience. One participating lecturer shared his impressions: "This workshop has really helped us as lecturers to become more confident in assessing scientific manuscripts to international standards."
The interactive atmosphere helped the lecturers deepen their skills, which had previously been considered challenging. The workshop also provided a platform for exchanging experiences among lecturers, enriching their perspectives on writing and reviewing articles.
Toward the end of the event, the committee presented certificates to the speakers as a token of appreciation, followed by a group photo session with all participants. At 12:00 PM WIB, the workshop officially closed with a prayer.
This activity represents a concrete step by JRPH in supporting the improvement of the quality of scientific publications within the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES). Through training like this, it is hoped that FIKES lecturers can play a more active role as reviewers, editors, and authors in various national and international journals.
