Public Health Study Program Webinar Series: Research Methodology "Experimental Health Research Design"

Fikes Online News - In the world of health research, understanding various types of research designs is a crucial foundation for students in their final stages of study, particularly in the preparation of their theses. One research design that plays a strategic role is experimental research.

Related to this issue, the Public Health Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a webinar series on the topic "Simple Experimental Research in the Health Sector" on Saturday, October 4, 2025, online via Zoom. This webinar was part of a series of webinars in the Advanced Research Methodology course, aimed primarily at seventh-semester Public Health students at UIN Jakarta's Faculty of Health.

The webinar featured Prof. Hoirun Nisa, PhD, a professor in the Public Health study program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Faculty of Health. Prof. Nisa explained that experimental research functions to test causal relationships between variables, namely how an intervention or treatment can influence a particular outcome. Through this design, students not only learn to analyze phenomena, but also understand the scientific mechanisms behind the changes that occur due to the treatment given.

There are three main types of experimental research: pre-experiments, true experiments, and clinical experiments. Students can choose pre-experiments as an option when determining experimental research designs.

To achieve novelty or provide findings that differ from previous research.

During the Q&A session, the resource person added that while experimental research can be conducted with a limited number of respondents, there are still calculations to determine the minimum number of respondents. However, in principle, research with an experimental design does not require randomization of samples; randomization of treatments is required.

Furthermore, Prof. Nisa explained that the duration of the intervention, or the length of the experiment, depends on the type of intervention being conducted. If the intervention is to change behavior, the effect will be apparent, and the longer the duration, the more permanent the behavior will be. This can be compared with literature studies. (srhl)
