Strengthening Partnerships and Tuberculosis Prevention, the Public Health Study Program and the Pisangan Community Health Center Conduct Screening for the Academic Community
FIKES Online News—The Public Health Study Program recently held a tuberculosis (TB) screening for the academic community at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The event took place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in the FIKES Laboratory Lobby at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. A total of 150 Public Health students from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta participated in the screening. This activity integrates the Tridharma of Higher Education, namely community service, as well as student practical activities for participants in the Screening and Early Detection of Disease Risk Factors Practicum course in the Public Health Study Program. In addition to involving students, this screening was a collaboration with the Pisangan Community Health Center and the Indonesian Optician Refractionist Education Foundation (LEPRINDO).
The Tuberculosis Screening was conducted as an initial step for early detection of TB cases. With the theme TRACK TBC (Track Risk, Analyze Characteristics, and Control TB), this activity focuses on early detection of tuberculosis through identifying risk factors, recognizing signs and symptoms of TB, and strengthening measures to prevent and control TB transmission. Through this activity, participants not only receive TB screening, but also free health checks that include measuring waist circumference, weight, height, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and eye examinations. The TB screening is carried out through interviews regarding the symptoms experienced by participants and is followed by sputum examinations for participants who meet the examination criteria.

The screening took place from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time). Participants registered through a Google form. After passing through the registration desk, participants were directed to undergo a waist measurement, followed by verification of weight and height data collected by the committee one week prior to the screening. The next step was to measure the participants' blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Blood pressure checks were conducted by the student screening committee. This activity aimed to determine the participants' baseline health condition and support early detection of risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Blood sugar checks were conducted by health workers from the Pisangan Community Health Center. These blood sugar measurements aimed to identify early signs of metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, in the participants. After the examination was completed, both the screening committee and the community health center staff recorded the results on the participant data sheet provided during registration.
The next examination was an eye examination conducted by students from the Leprindo Jakarta Optical Refraction Academic on the 3rd floor. The eye examination, which involved reading letters, aimed to assess visual acuity, detect early vision problems, and served as part of the participant's health screening. The next stage was an interview regarding tuberculosis symptoms. At this stage, participants were asked several questions related to TB symptoms. This interview aimed to determine whether they met the criteria for a sputum test.
The next stage was data entry. After the interview regarding TB symptoms, participants were directed to the data entry table. At this stage, Pisangan Community Health Center staff entered participant data into the Satu Sehat Mobile (SSM) website. Furthermore, the health center staff also determined whether participants needed a sputum test based on the interview results. For participants who met the sputum test criteria, sputum samples were collected in an open area through the back door of the laboratory.
As the final stage, participants were directed to the final table, which served as a consultation table for examination results and health education. At this stage, participants received a comprehensive explanation of the test results. The consulting team consisted of lecturers from the Public Health Study Program, Minsarnawati S.KM., M.Kes and Yustiyani, M.Si, and student representatives. Participants received education about tuberculosis, including a brief explanation of the disease, sputum test results, which will be available in the next few days via WhatsApp, recommendations for wearing masks to prevent tuberculosis transmission, and information about the results of the free health check. It is hoped that this activity will serve as an educational tool for students and the entire academic community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta to increase knowledge and awareness of tuberculosis, encourage early detection of TB cases, and contribute to efforts to prevent and control TB transmission on campus.
