Fikes Online News. - The Faculty of Health Sciences (Fikes) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta once again held an academic capacity building activity through a webinar titled "Using Secondary Data in Health Research" on Saturday, September 27, 2025. The event, held online via Microsoft Teams, was attended by all students of the 2022 intake of the Public Health study program.

In her remarks, the moderator also emphasized the urgency of mastering research methodology for students, particularly in utilizing the increasingly abundant potential of secondary data, such as from the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) and the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI).

Furthermore, as a speaker, Catur Rosidati, M.K.M., an expert in public health research and a lecturer in the Public Health study program at FIKES UIN Jakarta, elaborated on the fundamental concepts, advantages, and challenges of using secondary data. In her presentation, she further explained that this approach can also offer time and cost efficiencies for producing quality research.

"However, using secondary data also presents several challenges, including understanding complex data structures, selecting appropriate analysis methods, and ensuring the validity of the data used," explained Catur.

The material was enriched with practical examples, such as the use of 2023 SKI data to research disease risk factors and community responses to health services. Participants were also provided with technical steps for data processing, variable coding, and proper interpretation of results.

The discussion session was interactive, with many questions from participants, particularly regarding strategies for overcoming data limitations that do not align with research objectives when using secondary data.

This activity certainly received high enthusiasm from all students, who felt they gained new insights in developing proposals and theses based on secondary data. With this activity, the Faculty of Health Sciences (Fikes) of UIN Jakarta continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing students' research capacity so they can contribute significantly to the development of evidence- and data-based health sciences.
