The UIN Jakarta Master of Public Health Open House Presents the Webinar "No Means No": Building a Safe Space from Sexual Violence

FIKES Online News - The Master of Public Health Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a webinar entitled "No Means No: Building a Safe Space from Sexual Violence" and also socialized the Master of Public Health Study Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The event was held virtually on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 9:30–11:00 a.m. WIB. This event was part of the study program's commitment to conducting outreach to increase literacy, awareness, and concern among the academic community and the general public regarding the issue of sexual violence.

The webinar highlighted the phrase "No Means No," which emphasizes the importance of consent, personal boundaries, and respect for individuals' rights to their bodies and decisions. Through this activity, participants were encouraged to understand that sexual violence is not only an individual issue, but also a social and public health issue that requires serious attention and systematic prevention.

The activity began with an opening by the moderator, followed by remarks and a socialization to get to know more about the Master of Public Health Study Program at Fikes UIN Jakarta, delivered by the Head of the Master of Study Program, Fajar Ariyanti, M.Kes, PhD. In the main session, the second speaker, Narila Mutia Nasir, PhD, a reproductive health expert and lecturer in the Master of Public Health program, presented material on the concept of sexual violence, the importance of consent, the forms of sexual violence, and the impact of sexual violence on victims. Sexual violence can occur in various forms, from unwanted sexual remarks and non-consensual touching, digital harassment, intimidation, and forced sexual intercourse. The speaker also emphasized that sexual violence often leaves long-lasting impacts, including physical, psychological, social, academic, and professional ones.

One key point conveyed was the need to establish a safe space. A safe space not only means a place free from violence, but also an environment where victims feel heard, trusted, protected, and not blamed. In the campus context, a safe space can be achieved through a healthy communication culture, clear reporting mechanisms, victim support, protection of confidentiality, and an active role by all campus members in preventing sexual violence.

The webinar was interactive. Participants demonstrated enthusiasm through questions and responses, particularly regarding how to recognize forms of sexual violence, steps to take when witnessing or being a victim, and how to build a culture of anti-violence on campus and in the community, particularly among academics. The discussion also highlighted the importance of ending victim-blaming, strengthening digital literacy, and fostering collective courage to create a victim-friendly environment.

Through this activity, participants gained an understanding that preventing sexual violence requires the involvement of all parties. Education regarding consent, respect for personal boundaries, and the courage to refuse and report violence needs to be continuously strengthened. This webinar also served as a reminder that creating safe spaces is not only the responsibility of institutions but also a shared responsibility as part of the academic and social communities.

The event concluded with a summary by the moderator. Overall, the webinar proceeded smoothly and orderly, and received a positive response from participants. The Master of Public Health Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hopes this activity can be the first step in strengthening awareness and a collective movement to build a safe, inclusive, and sexual violence-free environment.
