Tuberculosis Prevention with Si BIRU: Real Efforts from PBL Group 9 Students

Online Fikes News,- Kayumanis Health Center Hall, Kayumanis Village, Bogor City – 6th semester students of the Public Health Study Program (PSKM) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta carried out Field Learning Experience (PBL) activities. Group 9 of Kayumanis PBL held the “Si BIRU (Overcome Lung TB)” program which aims to prevent and control Tuberculosis (TB) in Bogor City, especially in Cibadak Village. This program consists of three main activities, namely Si BIRU Edu, Si BIRU-Reminder, and Si BIRU-Media. The purpose of this program is to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of preventing and treating TB until complete, as well as reducing the negative stigma towards TB sufferers so that they get better social support.

The socialization activity of the Si BIRU program intervention was attended by dr. Nidia, as the representative of the head of the Kayumanis Health Center, Mrs. Puji Lestari as the Person in Charge of the Kayumanis Health Center TB Program as well as the field supervisor from Group 9, and Mrs. Marsha, a representative from Cibadak Village. In addition, this activity was also attended by RW 06 cadres who were the targets of the PBL Group 9 program. In her remarks, dr. Nidia expressed her gratitude for the presence of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta students at the Kayumanis Health Center who will hold the Si BIRU program in Cibadak Village. She hopes that the program designed by the PBL Group 9 student team can provide benefits for the Health Center and also the local community. The PBL Team of the Public Health Study Program was also present via Zoom Meeting represented by Dr. Minsarnawati, S.K.M., M.Kes. In her speech, Mrs. Wati expressed her appreciation to the Kayumanis Health Center for accepting students to study directly in the field and assist in efforts to combat Tuberculosis in Cibadak Village.

The Si BIRU program consists of three activities. The first activity, Si BIRU-Edu, is a counseling activity to provide education about tuberculosis to the general public, especially in RW 06 Cibadak Village, as well as school children at MI Mathla'ul Anwar. This activity also includes counseling for close contacts of TB sufferers integrated with the Kayumanis Health Center's Active Case Finding (ACF) program. The second activity, Si BIRU-Reminder (SINDER), is an innovation designed as a reminder for TB sufferers to take their medication routinely and on time. SINDER also provides education through broadcasts regarding the importance of compliance in undergoing treatment until complete. The third activity, Si BIRU-Media, is the creation of health promotion media to support the dissemination of information about the prevention and treatment of TB. The promotion media includes leaflets, health videos, jingles, and standing banners.

Previously, 6th semester Public Health students divided into 14 groups had carried out Field Learning Experience 1 (PBL 1) from January 13 to January 31, 2025. PBL 1 focused on situational analysis of TB problems in the Bogor City area. Based on the results of the analysis, various intervention activities were carried out to address the problems found, including the Si BIRU program implemented by Group 9 assigned to the Kayumanis Health Center.
