UIN Jakarta PBL Students Help Create a TB-Free Neighborhood through the Peduli-TB Program in South Tangerang
FIKES Online News,- Indonesia still ranks second as the country with the highest burden of TB cases in the world. As a form of TB prevention and control, the South Tangerang City Health Office launched the "TB-Free RW" program to encourage the acceleration of TB Elimination by 2030. In its implementation, this program still faces various challenges. In Sawah Baru Village, South Tangerang, especially in RW 07, various obstacles were found, such as the lack of training for cadres, the lack of educational media in the surrounding environment, the less than optimal use of digital media, and community misconceptions about how TB is transmitted. In addition, community trust in unofficial sources of information, the stigma that TB is a "hereditary" or "dirty" disease, and the lack of educational modules and schedules are the root problems that hinder the success of the program.

Group 2 of Public Health students, who were conducting Field Learning Experiences (PBL), proposed several alternative solutions to address the "unsustainable TB-Free Neighborhood Program" in Neighborhood Unit 07. The PEDULI-TBC program was selected as the most appropriate solution to address the problem sustainably. This program encompassed three main activities, running from February 2-5, 2026. These activities included outreach and training for community leaders and cadres; the creation and distribution of educational materials in the form of flipcharts, standing banners, banners reading "TB-Free Neighborhood Unit," posters, and educational documentary videos; and visits and education sessions with TB patients and their close contacts.
These activities are expected to increase public knowledge and awareness of TB. Cadres and community leaders who have received counseling and training can disseminate accurate information about TB to the community, the media that has been created can become a source of reliable knowledge, and the intention of patients to undergo examination and treatment until completion is strengthened, so that it can address the root cause of the "Unsustainability of the TB-Free RW Program" and can reduce the number of TB cases, especially in RW 07, Sawah Baru Village.
