UIN Jakarta Pharmacy Students Conduct Industrial Visit to PT Kimia Farma Pulogadung with the theme INSIGHT

FIKES Online News – The Pharmacy Study Program (Prodi) of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta successfully conducted an Industrial Visit to PT Kimia Farma Plant Pulogadung on Wednesday, August 10, 2025. This activity carried the specific theme: INSIGHT (Industrial Science Exploration to Gain Hands-on Training). Wednesday (12/10/2025)

The INSIGHT theme was chosen because it reflects the exploratory and analytical spirit needed by students to navigate the professional world critically and reflectively. The word "insight" itself conveys the meaning of broadening insight that is not merely informative but also transformative—providing new understanding, enriching perspectives, and fostering awareness of the complexities of the working world that cannot be fully grasped through lecture theory alone.

The event, which took place from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM WIB, was attended by supervising lecturers and students, as a crucial part of strengthening industry-based learning.

Preparation and a Warm Welcome

The series of activities began with an orderly registration process from 5:00 AM to 6:30 AM WIB. After a briefing on academic objectives, regulations, and the agenda, the group departed for PT Kimia Farma Pulogadung at 7:20 AM WIB and arrived at the location around 8:50 AM WIB.

Upon arrival at the Pulogadung Plant, participants were greeted by Mr. Haris, Head of Quality Control (QC). The opening session included a screening of an Occupational Safety and Health (K3) video and a presentation of the company profile, aimed at providing an initial understanding of safety standards and operational systems in the pharmaceutical industry.

The official welcome from UIN Jakarta was delivered by the supervising lecturer, apt. Adha Dastu Illahi, M.Farm. He expressed his appreciation to PT Kimia Farma for this opportunity and emphasized the importance of the visit as a means of strengthening competencies, ensuring students understand the close link between campus theory and industry practice.

Understanding National Drug Production Capabilities

The main topic of the visit was delivered by Mr. Haris, who provided an in-depth overview of PT Kimia Farma's production scope and capabilities. He explained that the company's production facilities are comprehensive, encompassing the manufacture of finished drugs, raw materials, cosmetics, and medical devices.

Furthermore, Mr. Haris explained that PT Kimia Farma is authorized to produce certain drugs, including narcotics and antiretrovirals (ARVs), which require a very strict quality control system that meets international standards.

Direct GMP Observation at the Production Gallery

The event continued with an interactive and enthusiastic discussion and question-and-answer session from the students. They actively sought information regarding the production process, quality control, and the challenges of the modern pharmaceutical industry.

The highlight of the INSIGHT theme was a field visit to the antiretroviral drug production gallery. Here, students gained a real-world understanding of the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). They directly observed the production stages, from raw material processing, granulation, tablet printing, and final packaging.

The event concluded with a follow-up question-and-answer session and the presentation of a thank-you plaque from the Pharmacy Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta to PT Kimia Farma Plant Pulogadung. Overall, the visit provided a valuable educational experience, successfully achieving the "Hands-on Training" objective of the INSIGHT theme, and enriching students' understanding of production systems, technology, and quality control in the national pharmaceutical industry.

The group then returned to the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta campus after the entire series of activities concluded. (ZR)
