UIN Jakarta Pharmacy Students Explore the Pharmaceutical Industry at PT Galenium Pharmasia through AZION 2026

FIKES Online News – The Pharmacy Study Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held an industrial visit—dubbed "AZION" (Azithromycin Industrial Exploration: Exploring Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Innovation, and Professional Practice)—on October 13 and 15, 2026, at PT Galenium Pharmasia. The event was attended by 145 students from the Pharmacy Study Program (Class of 2024, 5th semester) as part of an effort to broaden their perspectives and provide hands-on learning experience regarding pharmaceutical processes and practices within the industry.

An industrial visit serves as a form of experiential learning outside the classroom, designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and its practical application in the professional world. Through this activity, students had the opportunity to gain insight into pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, the implementation of quality standards, and the critical importance of workplace safety and professionalism in producing high-quality pharmaceutical products. The visit also provided an overview of the roles played by pharmaceutical professionals in supporting the entire lifecycle—from production to the distribution of products.

The program began with an opening session and welcoming remarks from the company, followed by a presentation on the corporate profile of PT Galenium Pharmasia. Students also received briefings on occupational health and safety (OHS) as well as product knowledge. Subsequently, the participants toured various industrial facilities to observe operational processes and the application of pharmaceutical practices within the company environment.

During the visit, the students had the opportunity to explore four key areas: production, Quality Control (QC), packaging, and the warehouse. In the production area, students were introduced to the various stages of pharmaceutical product manufacturing. The visit to the QC area provided insight into the importance of testing and quality oversight to ensure that products meet established requirements. Meanwhile, the packaging area showcased the product packaging process, and the warehouse area offered an overview of how materials and products are managed and stored to support the smooth operation of the pharmaceutical industry.

The faculty supervisors for the visit, apt. Adha Dastu Illahi, M.Farm., and apt. Delilia Eliza, M.Farm., accompanied the students throughout the industrial visit. In his remarks, Dastu noted that such visits serve as a vital opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of how pharmaceutical science is applied beyond the academic environment. Through direct observation and hands-on learning within an industrial setting, students are expected to grasp the importance of precision, discipline, responsibility, and adherence to established standards at every stage of production and quality control.

Representing PT Galenium Pharmasia, Agus Ahmad Yani, S.Si., Apt., shared the history of the company, which operates in the pharmaceutical and skincare sectors in Indonesia. The company originated from a small pharmacy in South Jakarta called PT Nitra, founded in 1960 by Joesoef Bagindo Sutan and his son, Dr. Eddy Joesoef. Today, the company has developed several well-known brands, including Caladine, JF, and Laxadine.

Agus Ahmad Yani hopes that this industrial visit will provide students with a clear, real-world perspective on the processes and operational standards within the pharmaceutical industry. By gaining exposure to areas such as production, quality control, packaging, and warehousing, students are expected to broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the critical importance of quality, precision, workplace safety, and innovation in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.

Through this industrial visit, students not only acquire knowledge regarding pharmaceutical manufacturing processes but also have the opportunity to cultivate a critical mindset and gain insight into the professional challenges inherent in the industry. This experience is intended to serve as a foundation for students as they prepare to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of science, technology, and the increasingly dynamic demands of the pharmaceutical sector.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation to PT Galenium Pharmasia, followed by a group photograph. Through this initiative, the Pharmacy Study Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, hopes to foster an enduring partnership between academia and the industry—a collaboration essential for enhancing the quality of education and student competency. The spirit of "Learn Today, Innovate Tomorrow" serves as a guiding principle for students to pursue continuous learning, foster innovation, and prepare themselves to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the pharmaceutical field.
