UIN Jakarta Promotes AI Usage Guidelines for Academics
Fikes News Online, - The Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta, in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Literacy and Innovation Institute (ALII), held a socialization session on the Guidelines for the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). The event, attended by FIKES academics, including lecturers, educational staff, and students, aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of policies regarding the use of artificial intelligence technology on campus. The event was organized by the Deputy Dean III of FIKES UIN Jakarta, Dr. Uswatun Khasanah, MNBS, and moderated by Nursing lecturer Birrul Qodriyyah, S.Kep., Ns., MSc., who expertly guided the discussion to be interactive and in-depth, on Tuesday (August 19, 2025).
The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Apt. Zilhadia, M.Si., Apt., who also delivered the keynote speech. In his remarks, he emphasized that the development of AI technology is inevitable, but it must be addressed wisely to avoid eroding academic honesty and originality. Prof. Zilhadia emphasized that AI should be positioned as a discussion partner in the learning and research process, not as a substitute for human effort. This guide, he continued, is intended to ensure that the entire academic community can utilize AI intelligently, ethically, and while remaining grounded in Islamic values.
The main session was delivered by Khodijah Hulliyah, M.Sc., Ph.D., Director of ALII UIN Jakarta, who presented the contents of the Generative AI Large Language Models (LLMs) Policy Guidelines, officially published by the university. Khodijah emphasized that "AI technology is like a double-edged sword: on the one hand, it can enrich learning, accelerate research, and open up new spaces for creativity, but on the other, it also has the potential to erode originality and integrity if used unethically. Therefore, this policy is not designed to restrict, but rather to guide AI so that it truly becomes a tool that is trustworthy, fair, and aligned with Islamic values."
On this occasion, participants were also encouraged to understand various important aspects contained in the guidelines, from the limitations of AI use in learning, research, and discussions, to the obligations of the academic community to be transparent, provide proper citations, and maintain personal data protection. This outreach also emphasized the collective roles of students, lecturers, and the university. Students are required to maintain academic integrity, lecturers act as mentors and supervisors, and the university is obligated to facilitate training and conduct ongoing monitoring.
Through this activity, UIN Jakarta demonstrates its commitment to being a pioneer in integrating artificial intelligence with Islamic values. The dissemination of AI usage guidelines is expected to strengthen an intelligent and innovative academic culture, while upholding ethics, integrity, and trustworthiness as its primary foundation. Thus, the presence of AI technology is seen not only as a technical advancement but also as a means to bring benefits to the community and the nation. (UK/ZR)
