Jakarta, FIKES Online News – The Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, has initiated a strategic step to strengthen its academic contribution through a Workshop on Developing a Research and Community Service Roadmap. Held at the FIKES UIN Jakarta Campus on Monday (July 20, 2026), this event provided a crucial opportunity for all lecturers to plan a more impactful future direction for the institution.

The event, which ran from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM WIB, featured Prof. Sabarinah Prasetyo from the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia (FKM UI) as the main speaker. In her presentation, Prof. Sabarinah emphasized that research conducted by academics should not stop at scientific publications alone, but must have a real impact and involve the active participation of students, the community, and various partners.

"Research aims to generate knowledge, while community service is the application of that knowledge. However, our long-term goal is community development that can trigger social change," she emphasized to the workshop participants.

Prof. Sabarinah also discussed the ideal research framework, which requires maintaining quality, building extensive networks with colleagues, and ensuring sustainability through obtaining grants. She encouraged lecturers to focus on high-impact outcomes, such as publications in reputable journals and developing policy briefs that are useful for policymakers.

Furthermore, in the context of UIN Jakarta, Sabarinah proposed unique approaches such as faith-based community engagement and pentahelix collaboration. One interesting idea that emerged was the establishment of a research center with a strong identity, such as the "Health and Community Empowerment Initiative" or "Community Health Innovation Initiative," as the main umbrella for academic activities at FIKES.

Following the presentation session, the agenda continued with a plenary discussion involving all lecturers. This session served as an opportunity to align visions and identify research niches or unique research areas that would become the hallmark of the UIN Jakarta Public Health study program, a key topic of discussion. This workshop served as the opening act for a series of major events. Following the July 20 agenda, the lecturers will continue the discussion on July 21 and will reconvene to finalize the roadmap on July 28, 2026. (DA/RHN)
