When Students Are Present Among the Community: UIN Jakarta's PBL Efforts to Prevent TB in RW 09 Benda Baru
South Tangerang, FIKES Online News - Group 10 of Public Health students from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta participated in the KOMPAS TBC (Community for Tuberculosis Action and Socialization) program as part of the 2026 Field Learning Experience (PBL) program. This program was implemented in Neighborhood Association (RW) 09, Benda Baru Village, South Tangerang, with the goal of helping the community understand tuberculosis (TB), strengthening the role of health workers, and fostering a shared commitment to TB prevention.
Before the activity began, the students coordinated with health workers and local administrators, including the Head of the Benda Baru Community Health Center (UPTD), the TB Program Manager, the Head of Neighborhood Association (RW) 09, the Youth Organization (Karang Taruna), and health workers. This meeting served as the initial step to ensure that the activity met community needs and could be implemented.

KOMPAS TBC is implemented through three main activities: GEBER TBC, KENAL TBC, and TB Educational Videos. Through GEBER TBC (Joint Movement to Recognize and Prevent TB), students and residents participated in a morning walk campaign around RW 09. Posters promoting "Stop the Stigma of TB" were carried, and messages about "Stop the Stigma of TB" were voiced throughout the campaign. The activity also featured an educational session by the Acting TB Officer (PJ) of Benda Baru Health Center, Ms. Septi Indriyani, AMK, regarding symptoms, transmission, prevention, and the importance of complete TB treatment. An open discussion, quizzes, and door prizes were given. The event concluded with a health check, which included height, weight, waist circumference, and blood pressure.
Tuberculosis education and a flipchart demonstration were provided to health workers in RW 09 Benda Baru by a Public Health lecturer from UIN Jakarta, Ms. Meliana Sari, SKM., MKM. and the Acting TB Officer of Benda Baru Community Health Center, Ms. Septi Indriyani, AMK.
Meanwhile, through KENAL TBC, students focused on health cadres in RW 09. Cadres participated in counseling sessions delivered by speakers, Ms. Meliana Sari, SKM., MKM, a Public Health lecturer from UIN Jakarta, and Ms. Septi Indriyani, AMK, the Acting TB Officer of Benda Baru Community Health Center. The activity continued with training on the use of flipcharts. This training helped cadres convey health information using flipcharts to residents. The flipcharts were then handed over to the cadres as an educational tool that can be used continuously in the community.
To reach more residents, students also created an educational video about TB that was broadcast in the waiting room and on social media at Benda Baru Community Health Center. It is hoped that information about TB will continue to be available to the community, even after the PBL activities are completed. Through KOMPAS TBC, it is hoped that the community will understand and care about TB more, while health cadres will be more enthusiastic about carrying out their role in TB-related education.
